Parades

Every year the Festival is invited to participate in several area parades. The Host and Hostess are usually the representatives at these events to promote our Festival.

2010

This year we began with the Dennison Railroad Festival parade. As usual, an excellent Queens' Luncheon was served prior to the parade. It was greatly appreciated by our 2010 Host and Hostess, Francis and Dorothy Brogan, John and Joyce Correll and Bob Mueller, who represented our Festival.

Francis, John, Dorothy and Joyce check out the convertible provided by J.D. Byrider, parade sponsor. Thanks to Tony Marcantonio, franchise owner, we were provided a convertible to use in all the parades this year.

In line and waiting for the parade to step off.

And away they go!

The next parade was the Dover Canal Days Festival, held on Saturday of Memorial Day weekend.

A 2009 and 2010 scholarship recipient, Allison was home for the holiday and came to help pass out candy during the parade.

Francis and Dorothy were again escorted by John and Joyce.

Our parade entry approaches the square.

As they pass the reviewing stand, the Brogans wave as Gary Petricola, parade announcer, introduces them.

The First Town Days Festival is always held Independence Day weekend at Tuscora Park in New Philadelphia. The parade is held on Friday evening and we always participate.

Our line-up spot along the tree-lined streets provided Francis and Dorothy with some shade but Joyce's seat was in the sun. She was hoping to get moving soon.

Dorothy was enjoying the wait since she managed to be in the shade the entire time.

The Dover Halloween parade is the one everyone waits for, along with the Christmas parade. They both are great fun and the kids really enjoy being part of the activity and passing out candy. The adults show up, particularly at Halloween, because it gives them a chance to act like kids again.

Patrick is all snuggled in and ready to head down the road.

That's our Hostess! She decided that instead of riding in the parade, she would walk. Dorothy knew she wasn't in Kansas anymore so she dressed up like the Wicked Witch of the West. That isn't Toto in front of her, it's actually John and Joyce's cat disguised as their dog. Looks like Fran was taste testing the candy so we didn't give any away that wasn't up to par.

As you can see, we had several people who turned out in costumes.

RaeAnn and President Marsha Mari carried the sign to lead the group through the square.

Vincent, on the front, and Patrick had it made. They rode the whole parade and never offered to give mom, Sarah, a ride.

Passing the reviewing stand.

Since Dorothy was walking, Francis rode up front with John and Joyce got to ride in the back with the cat, or dog, or whatever!

For the first time, thanks to Todd T. Taylor, we were able to participate in the New Philadelphia Christmas parade. Todd is a member of our organization and entertains at our Festival. Since he already had a float in the parade sponsored by Shearer's, he had a sign made advertising our Festival and we had volunteers to help pass out Shearer's Potato Chips.

Todd checks his sound system prior to the start of the parade.

The Rion boys, Dominic and Anthony, helped their dad, Kraig, pass out Shearer's Potato Chips during the parade.

Getting loaded and ready to go.

The next evening we were participating in the Dover Christmas parade. To thank the City of Dover for their year round cooperation and the people of Dover for their support, we also set up a booth on the square and distribute free cookies. This year we passed out about 500 cookies that were all gone before the parade reached the square.

Prior to leaving for the parade, Kailynn tried her antlers on.

Rick, RaeAnn and Joanne are all set to pass out cookies. By the time the parade arrived they were out of cookies and able to watch it.

While we were running out of cookies downtown, everyone was getting ready to go at Crater Stadium.

Francesca, Samantha and Jennifer are excited to get started.

The rest of the crew is nearly ready. Vincent is making a check to see that all is going well.

John finishes the decorations on the truck.

Meanwhile, back at the square, the cookies were all gone, the elves had cleaned up the table and Kraig had built a fire under his nose to keep it warm.

Break time! Where's that parade? It's cold!!!

John once again drove the Brogans. This time he was accompanied by Don Giammo since Joyce was under the weather.

John drove the truck while Betty Jane rode in the back to refill candy buckets and supervise the kids who got too tired along the way and needed a ride. It's amazing that when they get near the square they're all rested and want to walk.

Here's one of the little guys who couldn't make it. Or maybe he just wanted to sit on BJ's lap.

Here's another little guy who needed some help. Wait a minute. Why is mom carrying him? Maybe dad needed some help.
